When Depression Hasn't Responded to Traditional Treatment
You’ve tried medication. Maybe you’ve tried more than one. You may have gone to therapy, changed medications, increased doses, or added another medication and you’re still not feeling like yourself.
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray for certain adults with depression. Unlike a medication you take at home, SPRAVATO® is administered in a certified healthcare setting, where you can relax comfortably while your care team monitors you throughout your treatment session.
At Looking Forward Psychiatry and Counseling, we help guide you through the entire process from determining whether SPRAVATO® may be appropriate for you to navigating insurance authorization and beginning treatment at our Wasilla clinic.
What is SPRAVATO®?
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray used to treat certain adults with depression. It works differently from traditional antidepressants and is administered only in a certified healthcare setting under the supervision of a healthcare provider. During treatment, you self-administer SPRAVATO® while our team is there to support you and monitor you throughout your session. Because every patient’s experience is different, we’ll talk with you about what to expect, answer your questions, and help determine whether SPRAVATO® may be an appropriate treatment option for you.
What to Expect During SPRAVATO® Treatment
SPRAVATO® treatments take place in one of our private treatment rooms, where you’ll self-administer the medication under the supervision of our clinical team. You’ll then settle in and relax while we monitor you for at least two hours, as required after each treatment. Bring your favorite playlist, get comfortable under a cozy blanket, and make the time your own. Our team will check on you throughout your visit, and you’ll need to arrange for someone to drive you home afterward.
Will My Insurance Cover SPRAVATO®?
We currently work with several insurance plans for SPRAVATO® treatment, including Alaska Medicaid, Aetna, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, Medicare, and Moda Health. Coverage and eligibility vary by individual plan, and prior authorization may be required. Our team will verify your benefits and work with your insurance company through the authorization process before treatment begins.
